I saw a video stenciling on fondant and it suggested a thin layer of shortening to hold it in place. Would you recommend this?

hey Lorelei! You have to put pressure on the top of the stencil and cookie with a finger or 2 to hold it in place. Alternatively, you can maybe tape the stencil to a "frame" made out of cardstock and then hold that down at the corners with weights, siliar to how shown here: http://www.sweetsugarbelle.com/2013/10/perfectly-stenciled-cookies/

Thanks for showing your techniques! Do you have any advice on when the round stencil is the same size as the cookie? I'm having trouble keeping the cookie and the stencil in place and usually end up going under the stencil with the icing or the stencil moves around a lot and it looks messy :(
